Teaching Artifacts
In this section of my Webfolio, I would like to showcase some examples of projects, assignments and lesson plans I've completed throughout the B.Ed program at St. Thomas, including some assignments and lesson plans I used during my field placements. As a teacher, I feel that it is important to reflect on completed lessons to determine what worked well, and what can be revised to improve the lesson.
Below are two assignments (one from my first field placement at George St. Middle and another from my second field placement at Harvey High) that I felt worked particularly well in the classroom. With a few minor tweaks and adjustments, I would love the opportunity to use them again. To view more lesson plans and completed coursework from the program, choose one of the subject areas below.

World Cultures Assignment: Grade 6 Social Studies
During my first field placement I had the pleasure of teaching two grade six French Immersion Social Studies classes. To meet the curriculum outcome for cross cultural understanding, students worked in their table groups to research one of the following countries: South Africa, Brazil, China, India or Iran. Then, each student wrote a short text about one of the six elements of culture: Beliefs and Values, Economy, Government, History, Language and Cultural Expressions or Technology. Once each student had completed their part, they collaborated in their groups to upload the information to a Weebly site to share what they had learned with their classmates.
This project was a great experience for me as a pre-service teacher. Although at times it was challenging to complete due to the limited access to technology in the classroom, I felt it was well worth the initial struggle due to the students’ level of engagement; they really seemed to enjoy the idea of making their own website where they could share what they had learned with their classmates. Furthermore, I felt the project was quite successful in achieving its’ goal of promoting cross-cultural understanding. I found students were frequently excited to share with either myself or their classmates interesting facts they’d found while doing their research.
Below are the links showcasing all my students' hard work, as well as a PDF document containing the assignment details and rubric:

Historical Perspectives Assignment: 11-2 Modern History
During my second field placement I had the opportunity to teach a French Immersion 11-2 Modern History class. While teaching the unit on the First World War, one of my main focuses was the different historical perspectives of the various countries involved in the war. To help them expand their knowledge, I wanted to give my students a project that would allow them to be creative and help them connect to the material. As a result, I had students research a variety of events that impacted a country of their choice leading up to and during the First World War. Then, students were tasked with creating a Facebook timeline that demonstrated the country's reactions to those events and their interactions with other countries.
The reaction of my students to this assignment was great. They were very eager and excited to begin the assignment as it allowed them to demonstrate their understanding in a unique format that they were comfortable and familiar with. To improve this assignment, I would like to revise the marking rubric to allow a little more flexibility in regards to content so that students could focus in on a particular event or take or more broader perspective depending on their preference. As well, if I were to use this project again I would consider allowing students to choose between a few different formats (ex: written journal entries) as some students found the artistic element to be quite challenging.
Overall, the project was very successful as it helped my students connect and engage with the subject material. In the end, I was blown away by the quality of work my students produced. Below are two examples of completed student projects:
